Meeting at Pate - We had a good trip. There were no problems; however the weather did give us a run for our money on Wednesday night. The rain and wind ripped up the tarp and bent our canopy poles, but we made repairs on Thursday and had nice weather until Saturday night. More rain came and by then it was time to pack up and go home.
The following club members attended our annual meeting:
Tom Harmes, Nova Scotia, Canada Travis Collie, Plainview, TX Bobby Paterson, Wichita Falls,TX John Penner, Chouteau,OK Dale Mayeaux, Oscar,LA
Also, we saw Tom Myers at the swap meet, but he was busy selling parts and could not make the meeting. Thank all of you for coming to Texas Motor Speedway for our meeting. We talked about a few small Cameo things and parts. I thanked the members for supporting our club - without all of you paying dues the club could not exist.
Thank you for visiting our Internet site. As technology changes, we want to give you the opportunity to stay in touch with our club and our members. A website will enable us to always keep you up to date.
UPDATES TO OUR TRUCKS...Be sure to check out the Our Trucks section - it includes pictures of trucks from our members. It also includes the latest featured truck from our newsletter.
The Chevy Cameo Carrier Pickup and the cousin GMC Suburban Carrier Pickup were only built between 1955 and 1959, as a limited production of fiberglass fender sides mounted to a steel cargo box. Total production for the Cameo was around 10,000, with just 5,220 produced for 1955. There were far fewer of the GMC counterpart made, only 1000 total and 300 for 1955. Because there were so few pickups made, there are very few still around. This club and Web site are dedicated to the uniqueness (rarity) of these pickups, that are sometimes lumped in with vintage pickups, vintage hot rods, classy cars or classic cars or confused with Camaro's. For owners and admirers of these vehicles, we hope to bring about a kinship that is bound by this special interest in America motorama.
History
The club was formed April 30, 1988, at the Pate Swap Meet in Cresson, Texas. Ten interested people put up the membership fees to get the club started.
